World Trigger Arc by Arc Review (5/5) Part 4

Ninomiya asks Osamu and Chika if they knew Rinji Amatori, to which they both replied 'yes.' He then shows a photograph of a woman, asking them if they knew her. Neither of them knew it, so Ninomiya explains that she, Mirai Hatohara, was a former Sniper of his unit. She had illegally provided civilians with Triggers, and then with missing. It was concluded that she had opened a Gate and gone to the Neighborhood. 3 others had gone missing too, but they were not Border agents. Kazama Unit had been sent to search for her, but to no avail. Ninomiya believed that Rinji may have been 1 of the 3 civilians to accompany her. Osamu remembers seeeing Ninomiya at Chika's house when Rinji had disappeared. When Osamu asks why Ninomiya was so concerned about the case, he explains that HQ considered Hatohara to be the principle offender. However, Ninomiya believed that Hatohara could not have planned something like that, and that someone instigated her. Chika admits that her brother may have been the instigator, saying that he could do something like that if he wanted to. Osamu explains what he knew; that Rinji had a Trigger from Border, and that he was going to explore the Neighborhood with "collaborators". He also recalled the map of possible Gate opening locations, stating that it should match with Hatohara's information. At the same time, Osamu believes that Rinji didn't instigate Hatohara since he had made a "transaction" of some sort with the collaborators, and that he and Hatohara collaborated due to having common interests. Ninomiya gets up to leave, and refuses to give more information when Osamu requests it. Osamu then explains that they planned on going to the Neighborhood to find Rinji. Ninomiya bluntly tells Osamu that their team had no chance of being chosen for the expeditionary unit, saying that sending Yūma into A-Rank was their only hope of personally recovering Rinji honestly.

After the discussion, Kizaki reveals that due to Hatohara's actions, Ninomiya Unit was demoted to B-Rank as punishment. He explains that he knew this because he and Hatohara were fellow disciples of Azuma. He warns Osamu and Chika not to talk about it to prevent copycat cases.

Osamu calls Karasuma to request Shooter training, stating that they depended on Yūma too much in their previous battles. Karasuma explains that if he had given Osamu Shooter mentorship, he would have become more reckless in battle. He tells Osamu that if he wanted to know how to be a Shooter, he should ask the specialists.

Osamu visits Arashiyama Unit's Operation Room for mentorship on shooting. Ayatsuji greets him, and informs him that Arashiyama would be arriving soon. Tokieda fills out a lot of paperwork, and when Osamu inquires about it, he said that since the conference following the invasion, the number of applicants to Border increased, to the point where they had to accept new members every month. Arashiyama arrives, and Osamu gives Haruka a gift from Shiori, dorayakis, which make Haruka happy as they're from a good store.

With tea and dorayaki, they begin discussing the topic of Gunners and Shooters. Arashiyama asks Osamu why he wants to get points so badly, and Osamu responds that his team depended on Yūma too much. Arashiyama responds by telling Osamu that it is not in a Shooters' role to get points alone. Due to the fact that Trion is evenly spread between a bullet's firepower, durability, and propellant, the relatively low firepower makes it difficult to kill, compared to Sniper and Attacker Triggers. As an example, he alluded to their battle with Nasu Unit and Suzunari First; had Nasu gone up against Yūma or Murakami alone, she would have lost. Osamu, remembering what Kitora taught him, said that a Shooter's advantages are attacking from a distance and more easily concentrating attacks. Arashiyama puts it into context such that Shooters can come as back up when Attackers were taking care of things at the front lines. Arashiyama concludes by telling Osamu that he had most of the skills he needed, but he and Tokieda would help further train him.

Meanwhile, Chika and Izuho are at the firing range. They plan to go down, but there are no spots for them to be side-by-side. A boy tells them a spot is free, freeing the one besides himself and saying he knows the person who occupied that spot, so they use it. Hiura comes up to Natsume, attracted by the cat on her head. It then jumps onto Tōma's pompadour. The practice begins and everyone begins shooting. Narasaka gets No. 1, but admits that there were agents better than he who simply did not care about hitting the target.

At the Sniper training room Tōma tells Narasaka to try sniping with a cat on the head saying that it's a refreshing experience but Narasaka refuses. Hiura is amazed on Ema's skill and realizes that that's why he was consistently a bad performer in practices. When he blushes after being praised by Chika, Tōma teases him for being popular with girls. He then introduces Ema to the girls and Natsume surprised to learn he's 14 too, as she thought he was younger. The girls introduce themselves and Hiura tells him that Chika is nicknamed Tamakoma's cannon. Yuzuru replied that he knows nothing about that, as he doesn't watch recordings. When Natsume asks if Tōma is his mentor, Tōma says yes but Ema says no and that he is only acts as his mentor, which saddened Tōma. He added that Hatohara is his one and only mentor. Narasaka then leave the room along with Hiura, whom has a team meeting. Afterwards, Tōma teaches Natsume and corrected her, saying that she has tendency to veer to the left. Meanwhile, Chika asks Ema about Hatohara. He says that Hatohara quit Border after being released off the Expedition Force. He also says that she joined Border for that purpose and even passed the selection test. But the higher ups removed her unit afterwards because she never hit people. He added that she was an excellent sniper who brought victories by sniping weapons instead. Chika tells him that she cannot hit people too because she's afraid. Ema says that it's not something you admit to your next opponent.

Meanwhile, at the solo battle room, Yūma loses 6-9 to Murakami. He asks Murakami if Kageura is the 3rd attacker and he replied that he's around 20th. When asked about his strength, Murakami says that he has more loses than victories against Tachikawa, Kazama, Kageura, and Konami. He also added that he has never fought against Jin as he was already a S-rank when he joined. Yūma then asks him about Kageura Unit. Murakami informs him that the unit has Attacker - Gunner/shooter - Sniper makeup too. He then mentioned that the unit was a rank 6 A-Rank unit once and along with Ninomiya Unit, they are the undisputed top-2 among B ranks.

At the solo battle common area, two C-ranks are gossiping about a man, who turns out to be Kageura. They were whispering on how stupid he is losing 8000 points and his team got demoted due to violence. As Murakami and Yūma entered the area, Kageura asks the C-ranks what do they want and they says that they are only joking and that they are his fan. He then tells them to leave as it's too much trouble. As they are leaving, the two C-ranks continue to gossip, that Kageura is surprisingly more composed than expected and that must be because of his punishment making him a coward. The last word ticks Kageura off and he decapitates both of them from a distance, canceling their trion body. The C-ranks complain that fights outside mock battles are not allowed. Kageura says that they just tripped and fell on their own. Yūma notices that he uses a Scorpion and wonders, how could Scorpion cover such distance? Murakami warns Yūma not to stare at Kageura too much, else he'll snap at him.

Murakami greets Kageura, and is begged by the two trainees that Kageura attacked to protect them. Murakami reveals that Kageura had a Side Effect, which allowed him to read hearts, which Yūma detects as a lie. In this case, he sensed the negative emotions coming from the two trainees. Regardless, the trainees flee. Murakami warns Kageura not to do it lest be demoted. Kageura counters saying that he cared more when people insulted him, and Yūma asks him if he didn't care for being in A-Rank. Never having met Yūma before, Murakami introduces him, much to Kageura's amusement that Murakami and Arafune lost to him. Kageura inquires why Yūma was interested in getting to A-Rank, suggesting expeditions. Yūma offers Kageura to try and read his mind with his Side Effect. Kageura then gets up to leave, criticizing his own Side Effect. Before going, Kageura tells Yūma that his team wouldn't let weaklings win. Yūma asks Murakami what Kageura's real Side Effect was, and Murakami tells him it's "receiving emotions aimed at him from others." The sensation Kageura feels is like pricking, and the more negative the emotions, the more painful it is. They agree that it was harsh for him, and Murakami goes on to say that he had the same air as Yūma.

Osamu arrive at Tachikawa Unit's operations room, where he is greeted by a strange boy, who has a lot of pride in his unit's standing. When Osamu tells him his purpose of being there, and mentions Karasuma, he tries to physically get Osamu to leave, when Izumi kicks him in the back. Tachikawa tries to lower the boy's - Takeru Yuiga - vigor by telling him that he was so weak that he wasn't worthy of being represented by any one of the swords of the Tachikawa Unit emblem. During their conference, Osamu explains his goal of being able to get points alone, and his training which Arashiyama Unit which allowed him to remove the guard of a target. Kitora said that there wasn't anything more to teach since he wasn't at the level required to learn more. Osamu asks Izumi to teach him about composite bullets, like the kind Nasu uses. Izumi agrees to teach Osamu about composite battles if he could defeat Yuiga 100 times in battle.

Yuiga adamantly refuses to battle Osamu because it would hurt his pride to lose to a B-Rank agent 100 times. Izumi reminds him that anyone that had pride wouldn't act like that, and Osamu and Yuiga begin to battle. In 10 matches, it's 8-2 points, with Yuiga in the lead. Osamu rememebers what Karasuma and Arashiyama told him about how he stiffened when trying to hit opponents. Osamu believes that if he can move more freely, he can win. They continue to fight.
