Episode 56: Gon, Leorio and Kurapika ride in a car on a rainy day. Kurapika, in disguise from the Phantom Troupe, talks with Killua on a cellphone. Killua is in the neighborhood of the Phantom Troupe hideout, having found out where they were after being caught. There are new buildings, making it hard for him to find where the Troupe are. The new buildings were constructed with Nen by Kortopi. Killua isn't sure what to do, since the buildings are rigged and he's nervous about running into one of the Troupe members. Kurapika calls Melody who is still shopping with Neon.
Meanwhile Chrollo, Shalnark, Phinks, Franklin, Shizuku, Pakunoda, Machi, Nobunaga, Feitan, Kortopi, Bonolenov, and Hisoka discuss Kurapika, or as they call him, "the Chain user," as well as the Nostrade Family and the various bodyguards protecting Neon. They are each given flyers with pictures of each bodyguard. Chrollo realizes after meeting Neon and stealing her powers, he could have gotten information from her about Kurapika and the reason she's in Yorknew City. He pieces together Neon likes collecting body parts, like the Scarlet Eyes at the auction, and that Kurapika is also after the eyes and revenge for his brethren. The Troupe look through the boxes that were stolen from the auction for the eyes. Kortopi uses his powers, by touching the eyes, to find the copy he created. It leads to the hotel where Neon and Co. are staying. Nobunaga wants to go immediately, and Chrollo tells him he's going too.
On a roof, Killua stakes out the hideout the best he can, when he gets a call from Melody. He learns of Melody's amazing ability to hear. Chrollo, Nobunaga, Shizuku, Kortopi, Machi and Pakunoda make their way towards the hotel. Melody is instantly able to hear their movements. The two follow the Troupe, as Gon calls Killua for an update. Leorio drives them to a train station the Troupe are headed to, while Melody and Killua ride on the same train. Kurapika realizes they're headed for the hotel Neon is staying at. Squala, in the hotel room, talks on the phone with Eliza who is still stuck with Neon shopping. He talks to his dogs about a better future with her. The Troupe exit the train, and Kurapika informs Squala they're headed his way. Kurapika says he must stay away from the Troupe, so they don't sense his killing intent, so Gon must give him enough time to use his chains. Squala exits the room, enters an elevator, the whole time the Troupe knowing his exact movements because of the Scarlet Eyes copy. The Troupe rush toward the hotel, Leorio unable to follow because of traffic. Gon and Kurapika go on foot. Killua learns of this as well, and follows along.
Episode 57: As Gon and Killua are captured by Phantom Troupe, Chrollo orders the rest of the members to meet up at Hotel Beitacle. Melody, who overhears their conversation, goes there first with Kurapika and has formed a plan. When the Troupe arrive at the said Hotel, Leorio is seen sitting in the lobby. He suddenly picks up his phone and pretends to call someone. Later, it is revealed that Leorio is trying to give a message to Gon and Killua about their plan. The boys quickly comprehend the message and do as he said. Pakunoda, Nobunaga, and Kortopi arrive there. Nobunaga is surprised in seeing the two again and thinks that they have changed their mind about joining the Troupe. He asks them to be friends with him. Killua refuses and states that he does not want to see their faces. As he turns away and closes his eyes, Gon realizes that if they do that, it won't seem suspicious for them to close their eyes to adjust it when the lights goes down.
Chrollo asks Pakunoda to check on them once again. She does as he says and approaches them. Since there is still one minute left, Gon and Killua have to buy time before Pakunoda can check on them. Killua starts saying that her abilities won't work since they are innocent. This, however, works perfectly as planned. Right after Pakunoda knows the truth, the lights goes down and Killua breaks free from Machi's thread and breaks Pakunoda's left arm, followed by Gon kicking her chin. Machi then pulls out the thread which tied Gon's arms to prevent him from escaping. Killua tries to set Gon free by killing Machi, but his claws ends up trapped within her muscles, making him unable to move and captured by Machi. Gon then tries to save his friend, but is caught by Nobunaga instead.
Suddenly, a sword is thrown from the outside with a letter tied on it. As they realize that their boss is gone, Nobunaga decides to open the letter. The letter is from Kurapika, and Nobunaga gives it to Pakunoda. It says that if she talks about the boys' memories, he will kill Chrollo. She then remains silent to prevent the boss from being killed. The room suddenly goes bright again. Not long after that, Phinks, Feitan, and Shalnark come for help. When they are discussing about the situation, Phinks suddenly gets a call from Kurapika. He says that he will give three demands and they must obey them, or else, the leader will be killed. Kurapika asks to talk to Pakunoda and orders her to meet up at the place he designated. He then tells Nobunaga that the rest of the members should go back to the hideout. After that, he gives directions to Pakunoda regarding the place where they will meet. Shortly after that, she goes to the said place alone. Meanwhile, at the Troupe's hideout, Hisoka is seen smiling and says that it is the perfect chance to fight Chrollo, but if he leaves, Chrollo will die. He then picks up his phone and asks Illumi for help.
Episode 58: Pakunoda finally arrives at the designated place. After Melody verifies her, Kurapika gives two conditions for both Pakunoda and Chrollo. The first rule for Chrollo is that he is forbidden to use Nen, and the second is that he may not contact any member of the Phantom Troupe. Before placing the second condition, he searches his mind hard for an alternative but fails to find one. He then claims that his top priority is to get Gon and Killua back. To make certain that he adheres to those conditions, he uses his Judgement Chain on him. After Pakunoda accepts the conditions, Kurapika puts the chain on Chrollo. He then gives Pakunoda's conditions; the first is that she must release Gon and Killua unharmed, before midnight and without any tricks. Second, she may not speak a single word about him. She accepts it and Kurapika puts the chain on her. Kurapika tells her to bring back Gon and Killua to exchange hostages. Pakunoda agrees and she heads back to their hideout.
At the Troupe's hideout, Phinks insists Pakunoda to tell him the chain user's location, and that he won't let her leave before telling him. However, Pakunoda refuses and says that she will take the kids alone, making Phinks angry. Machi tells her to leave, and that she and Kortopi will stop them. Feitan implies that Pakunoda, Machi, and Kortopi are probably under the chain user's control. Gon suddenly interferes by saying that Machi and Pakunoda are just trying to save their leader. Phinks and Gon start arguing until Franklin stops them. Franklin tells Phinks to let Pakunoda go and reminds the Troupe that the worst-case scenario is if the whole Phantom Troupe were to die and the Spider perishes, and if their arguing causes the Phantom Troupe to fall apart, that would be the worst betrayal against their boss, so Franklin proposes that Pakunoda can take the kids to the chain-user and boss does not return, then they could kill the controlled members and start rebuilding the Spider. This proposal is quickly agreed upon by Machi, although she claims that she is not being controlled and that killing her won't be easy.
Suddenly, the phone rings and Phinks answers it. On the line, Kurapika asks to talk to the hostages. Phinks throws the phone with some force at Gon, much to Shalnark's anger, since they are using his phone. Kurapika asks about their current situation, to which Gon replies quickly and throws the phone back to Phinks, upsetting Shalnark again. Phinks then tells Kurapika that they are following his orders. Kurapika watches as Pakunoda and the boys go back to his place, until he suddenly sees Hisoka. He phones Kurapika and asks to allow him to go inside the airship along with the hostages. He claims that his target is the boss, and that he wants to fight him. As the airships land, both parties meet. After verifying that Gon and Killua are not being manipulated, they begin the exchange. Kurapika and the others leave immediately after that; however, the spiders are still there. Hisoka challenges Chrollo to a duel, but Chrollo says that he is not worth fighting since he cannot use his Nen for now. This shocks Hisoka and he leaves immediately. He claims that he is not interested in broken toys. On the airship, Hisoka texts Illumi that he may "slip out when it please him", he also informs Pakunoda of his true fortune. Back at the Troupe's hideout, the remaining members question Pakunoda's return without the boss. Instead of answering, Pakunoda charges her gun and points it at them. She then shoots her maximum 6 Memory Bombs bullets towards Feitan, Phinks, Machi, Nobunaga, Shalnark, and Franklin with her memories and feelings in it. Right after that, Kurapika's Judgment Chain kills her instantly while she hopes that she is the last of the Phantom Troupe to die.
On the next day, Gon and Killua are seen discussing about their plan on getting the Greed Island game. After Gon tells about his plan, Killua agrees and they both go to the auction. While they are entering the hall where the auction is held, they meet Phinks and Feitan, much to the latter's surprise. The boys quickly run from the hall, but are stopped by Phinks and Feitan immediately. They explain that they are not going to kill them, and that they just came to enjoy the auction. Gon asks about Pakunoda, to which Phinks replies that she's dead. He then tells them that she wanted to say thank you to them and then he leaves with Feitan.
Episode 59: Kurapika finally awakes after two whole days and learns about what happened after he passed out. At the auction when Greed Island is introduced, people start bidding, but a man named Battera wins the bid by beating the other bidders including Milluki. Right after the auction, Gon and Killua approached Battera and volunteered to play Greed Island as Battera is hiring professional Hunters to play it. Battera declines their offer for a certain matter, but he begins having an interest when Gon and Killua mention the memory card and the ring they have from Ging. Battera asks Tsezguerra to examine the Ren level of the two, which they completely fail because their Nen isn't enough to survive the game. Tsezguerra is already an experienced player of Greed Island and knows the dangers of playing.
While the two exit, Phinks and Feitan steal a copy of Greed Island then bring it to their hideout where they both enter the game. Meanwhile, Gon and Killua plan to strengthen their Nen and start creating their Hatsu. Killua starts his training while Gon is still clueless on what he will do. They both try to think of cool-sounding powers, but Gon is drawing a blank. In the middle of thinking, Kurapika enters Gon's room and tells Gon about his training. He suggests Gon ask his Master about how to train.
Gon calls Wing and asks him about special abilities. Wing tells him that Enhancers don't need to have special abilities for they are the most balanced in both offense and defense. Mastering Ren and Ten are enough to be called special abilities in themselves. Gon states that he doesn't have time because of the deadline, but Wing reminds him that he will be disappointed if he goes the path of Kurapika. Wing motivates him and Gon begs his Master for a hint.
Gon starts his training, and although at first he struggles, he realizes all the training and fighting he did in the past has accumulated in making him stronger. When using Gyo, he is able to see his Nen and condense it to form a physical mass of power on his fist. However, the Nen explodes, knocking him down. Gon becomes excited nonetheless about the thought of his new ability. Meanwhile, Killua has increased his electrical power, which started as a spark, into a very powerful technique.
Episode 60: Kurapika and Melody leave Yorknew City to continue their job with the Nostrade Family. Leorio sees them off and watches their departure from the city by airship. He meets with Gon and Killua, telling them about Kurapika leaving, much to Gon's disappointment for not saying goodbye. Leorio gives Gon his passbook and tells him that Zepile has recovered his hundred million Jenny as promised, so he can buy his Hunter License back. Zepile sits in a park, amazed at how much money a Hunter License is worth. He decides to become a Hunter himself. Meanwhile, in the auction's building, Battera is seen winning the last Greed Island for 60.2 billion Jenny Currency Symbol. He has successfully won all seven copies of the game. However, his first copy, as announced in the news, was stolen.
At a restaurant, Milluki eats more than his fill to calm his anger. He watches TV as a reporter talks about Battera winning all seven copies of Greed Island. After eating, Milluki goes back home. The following day, Gon and Killua attend a screening for those who want to be Greed Island players. Tsezguerra enters and explains how the test will go. After he finishes, the curtain on the stage goes down to prevent anyone from seeing what is happening. In an instant, everyone in the room starts to form a line to enter the now closed stage. Many people go straight to the line without thinking, while the rest don't make a move and remain in their seats, like Gon and Killua.
As Killua thinks about what they should do, a man behind them talks about the ones in line being hopeless. He explains that there is actually no rush to take the test. The man introduces himself as Puhat before leaving them to take the test and is followed by Killua. In the room where the test takes place, Tsezguerra is inside and ready to judge. Killua asks to show his Hatsu instead of Ren, which is agreed by the Hunter. He sees Killua's Nen transforms into electricity and he is amazed that Killua learned this in just four days. With that, Killua has successfully passed the test. He then proceeds to a waiting room where people who have passed stand by. Suddenly, he hears a loud noise from the previous room. Tsezguerra looks at a giant hole in the wall caused by Gon and is scared of the two. Gon passes the test and Tsezguerra enters the room to explain some things about their contract and tells them that they will depart at 5:00pm.
After the test, Gon, Killua, and Leorio are celebrating at a restaurant. Leorio departs for an exam to become a doctor. Gon and Killua bid farewell and say that when they meet again he will be a real doctor. At 5:00pm, the boys go by train to a mansion where all the Greed Island games have been set up to play. After they hear an explanation about the game, they decide the order of who goes into the game first by a rock-paper-scissors match. Gon is the first to enter, while Killua ends up being the seventeenth. Gon puts on his ring and claims that he wants to use his own card. Entering the game, Eta welcomes him and explains some rules. She also explains that having a ring can give him two spells: "Gain" and "Book." When Gon uses the "Book" spell, a book appears before him. She explains that inside the book, there are 100 restricted card slots, and that to clear the game, he must collect them all. After the explanation, Gon is allowed to proceed. When he takes a step towards the entrance of the game, Eta shows Gon a message from Ging through his ring.
In his message, he explains that Greed Island was made by him and his friends. He says if Gon is playing in hopes of searching for any clues of his whereabouts, he is out of luck and that he only wants to show off the game he has made. He then tells Gon to have fun playing it. As the message ends, Gon enters the Greed Island field.
