Anime Look Back: Hunter x Hunter Episode 61-65 Summary

Episode 61: Gon enters the game first and waits for Killua to join him before proceeding any further. After waiting for some time, his best friend finally comes and they begin walking on a green field. They both sense that they are being watched, but they don't know why. Suddenly, they encounter a man who is carrying a book which is used by all of the Greed Island players. Seeing Gon and Killua are still newbies, he decides to use "Trace" on Killua, a card which reveals the target's location at all times. As the spell begins chasing Killua, he runs as fast as he can, but it hits him in no time. The man laughs at Killua's failed attempt at escape, but immediately stops when he sees Killua's murderous expression, asking him what he did to him. Realizing how dangerous Killua is, he casts the "Return" spell to bring him back to the previous city he has visited before Killua could do any harm.

Meanwhile, at the Troupe's hideout, Shalnark invites Shizuku and Kortopi to play Greed Island along with him since there is nothing for them to do once they get home, to which they immediately agree. Back at the game, Gon and Killua continue on the field until they walk upon Antokiba, which is known as the "City of Prizes." Once they enter the city, they find a big board which has the Antokiba Monthly Tournament Schedule written on it. They decided to participate in the tournament and aim to win all kinds of prizes, but upon hearing the sound of their stomachs, they decided to eat first. At the restaurant where they are eating, the chef tells them that if they can finish their food in 30 minutes, they do not have to pay, and in addition, they will also receive the "Galgaida" card as the prize. As he tells them to begin, the boys start eating until there is nothing left on the plates. They receive their winning prizes and observe it immediately. The chef explains the card and they realize that it is nothing but junk. Suddenly, they hear an explosion from outside and both dash out of the restaurant to find a corpse of one of the players sprawled on the ground. This makes Gon wonder if the spell that was cast on Killua could kill him, but a man tells them not to worry since there is no such spell in the game. The man invites them to come with him to meet with his allies, and Gon and Killua do so.

They arrive at the meeting place with others waiting and one of them explains to the boys about the spell that was cast on Killua. The other explains to the beginners about the ways of getting cards in the game. They convince the beginners to join them and clear the game together. Afterwards, those who are joining are only Puhat and another guy, while the others refused. Gon is determined to enjoy and play the game without help. Because of that, he and Killua refuse their offering. After they leave the group, they begin walking around the city by themselves without realizing that someone is watching them closely.

Episode 62: Gon and Killua are in the Championship Final round of a rock-paper-scissor competition. By picking rock over scissors, Killua wins, his prize being the Sword of Truth. In Killua's hand, it immediately becomes the #83 card in the restricted slot and their first overall. They worry about someone taking it and not having any defensive spells, when a nervous player tells them to hand it over. They say no, causing the man to use Book and the boys do too. He knows they're new, and is about to use the "Thief" card, but before he can, Gon snatches it away. Gon gives back the card and Killua thanks the man for letting them know a spell can't be used until it's said aloud. Not a moment later, the boys are nearly surrounded by other Greed Island players. They include Kazsule, Asta, Linn, and others, stating only fools participate in tournaments since they can be stolen right after. Defeated, Gon sits upset, totally outmatched. Killua says they should go to Masadora City to buy spell cards, still being shadowed by Biscuit.

Meanwhile, Puhat, Abengane, Jispa, and others meet with Nickes and his team to form a party to defeat the game. They want them to collect spell cards, especially "Fortress", since it's the strongest defensive card. They'll need it to protect the "Angel's Breath" card, the rarest in the game. To get this card, they'd need to trade all 40 spell cards, which they have, but since that would leave them with none, they'd need "Fortress" for insurance. By selling their "Galgaida" cards, Gon and Killua have enough Jenny to buy a map. Even so, they need directions from the Trade Shop NPC, who also warns them about bandits and monsters. Instead of being scared, the two are excited for the challenge. When Biscuit finally approaches she asks to join, but Killua says it'll just be a nuisance, making Biscuit enraged in her mind.

At the same time, Shalnark, Shizuku, and Kortopi look on their map. Shalnark has discovered NPCs, that Kortopi's copying power doesn't work properly on the cards and Shizuku's vacuum cleaner works, but not on some items. His conclusion is since Nen works somewhat, they're not in a virtual world, but still a part of the real world. This is from the fact that the body enters the game and it would be too difficult to enter the soul. Greed Island merely warps the players to a part of the world and the game utilizes people with Nen abilities to do so. Because the game takes place in the real world, Shalnark believes they can take items out of the game without having to clear it. He wants the "Eye of God" card to learn more about rarer ones. Phinks and Feitan are also busy, killing players and stealing their spell cards.

Gon and Killua run through a forest with Biscuit still on their tail. At night, Killua is impressed she is keeping up, while she's impressed with their strength. Suddenly, ninjas come from behind trees in front of the three. Instead of attacking, they bow to the boys' feet, asking for help and coughing in a sickly manner. In their village, a very sick boy lies in bed, as one of them explains how a disease is spreading. The village elder says the medicine they have is not enough and there have been many deaths. They need money for new medicine and right away Gon figures this is a game event. The villagers just so happen to know the exact amount of Jenny the two have left, which would make them broke, but Biscuit volunteers to pay. Killua tells her to be quiet, much to her displeasure and Gon agrees to help. The villagers begin to cry with gratitude and it's all very awkward. They even take the shirts off Gon and Killua's backs for the sick boy, giving nothing in return. They're not worried since once they fight monsters, they can sell those cards to gain more money.

They reach a canyon area filled with Cyclops. Gon attacks, punching and kicking, but no damage is done. Killua is attacked by one, so his plan is to kick the eye, which turns it into a card. Killua figures the other monsters in the game also have weaknesses. On their way back to Masadora, they're blocked by a gigantic lizard. They flee in terror, stalked by the beast and are able to hide behind some rocks. A little black puffball comes out of nowhere and hits Gon in the face, but he is undamaged. It moves at a super fast speed, so the boys decide to try and catch it. They have a very difficult time doing so, all the while Biscuit watches, thinking to herself how she could coach them.

They give up, Biscuit not being pleased, when a weird looking horse walks in their path. It shoots out bubbles from its mouth, causing shock waves when they pop, but cause no damage. The horse is gone before the boys can fight it. Biscuit right away calculates the white bubbles pop when they touch humans, while the red ones pop on anything else, proving more and more she's a teacher and much stronger than she appears. She remarks a fighter would have to switch between Zetsu and Ten to defeat the horse, something beyond them for now. They encounter more and more monsters on the way, Biscuit becoming frustrated by them wasting their potential.

They run into an armored monster, which is scarier looking than others. Biscuit finally helps, telling them to use Gyo, revealing Nen inside the armor, but coming from another location. Gon follows the Nen and finds a little rat monster. It turns into a card as soon as Gon startles it, making the armor fall apart. Biscuit asks why they didn't use Gyo earlier and points her finger to the sky. She orders them to use Gyo, revealing a 1 made of Nen. Killua wonders why she's suddenly ordering them around, and points her finger. Gon screams out 5, which is correct and Biscuit orders Killua to do 200 push-ups. He asks why he should and she tells them her name and that she has 40 years of experience with Nen. She states she'll be their teacher and both boys are amazed at her age. Killua calls her an old hag and Biscuit punches him into the sky right after. Gon looks at her, his new Nen teacher.

Episode 63: The girl who followed Gon and Killua finally introduces herself as a pro Hunter, Biscuit Krueger. She says that they must obey and do whatever she says. However, Killua flatly rejects. Gon says that they already have Wing as their teacher, to which Biscuit replies that he is one of her students. Biscuit explains to the boys that they will not survive in the game alone, until she senses the presence of an enemy behind her. She stops immediately and tells them to sit down and pretend they are chatting. They do and she explains that there is an enemy behind her and tells them her plan: she will go to the south, while they go to the north. When they reach the tall pillar, they should use Zetsu and rush back immediately. After that, she slaps Killua on the cheek, pretending they are fighting, and goes south while the boys go north. Seeing that, the enemy starts chasing Biscuit.

As Gon and Killua go back, they find Biscuit's hair already cut by the enemy and hide behind the tall rocks. They watch as Biscuit and the enemy fight. Soon, the enemy is defeated effortlessly by her without using her Nen, much to Gon and Killua's surprise. After they reunite, they learn that Biscuit's main purpose for playing the game is to find a jewel which can only be found in Greed Island. Gon asks her to postpone her treasure hunting and teach them Nen. After reaching an agreement with the boys, she starts the training by providing a certain rule for their enemy, whose name is revealed to be Binolt: he must evade the boys' attacks within two weeks. If he is successful she will let him escape, but if he is knocked unconscious or can't stand, she will kill him. Also, he is not allowed to leave the crater. The same rule applies for both Gon and Killua. With that said, they begin the fight.

While Binolt is trying to heal up, Killua attacks him only to have his face sliced by scissors. Gon tries to attack him, but is stopped by a scissors attack as well. Killua then tells Gon to keep an eye on him while he attacks with rocks. Gon thinks it is a good idea and punches a big rock behind him to make falling pieces. He and Killua then start attacking Binolt with many rocks, sending them towards him, and making him struggle to avoid them. As Binolt avoids the rocks, Gon takes this opportunity to land a kick on him, but to no avail. Biscuit, who is watching nearby, looks impressed and comments that they are only jewels that need to be polished in order to shine. As the boys finish creating a forest of rocks, they start attacking the impeded Binolt. Affected by the attack, Killua appears in front of him and is about to punch when Gon suddenly stops him. He says that it will only be a waste if they stop the fight now, and that they should continue it again tomorrow, after getting some rest.

They keep fighting for days until Binolt finally gives up on day 10. Soon after, he leaves them. Biscuit says that they should go to Masadora. They start their 70 kilometer journey to the town, which will take three hours. Once they get there, they head to the department store. Biscuit buys three cards and then they go back to the rocky area. Once they arrive, the cards which Biscuit bought are revealed to be tools for digging. She says that they should go back to Masadora in a straight line, which means they should dig through the big rocks to make a path towards the town. Gon and Killua dig until they've reached the end of the rock. Soon, they both fall to the ground from exhaustion. However, Biscuit says that they should sleep in a sitting position. She makes them both sit while holding a rope, which holds a rock above their head. Killua finds this easy since he did this type of training as an assassin, while Gon had his head hit by the rock soon after falling asleep.

The next day, they start their training again by digging their way to Masadora. They keep digging until they find a solid rock that can't be broken by Gon's shovel. Suddenly, Gon has an idea to use his aura and let it flow to the shovel. Killua starts doing the same thing and their digging becomes faster and stronger. Biscuit states that they have learned a new application of Ten, which is Shu. She also states that once they reach Masadora, they will have completed the first stage.

Episode 64: After digging through the rocks to Masadora for days, Gon and Killua finally reach the town. Biscuit seems pleased by their work and commands them to go back to the starting point, to which they reply with complaints. On the way back, she tells them that they will now work on obtaining monster cards. She says that they both lack a plan of attack while fighting and they will learn to strategize. The training starts with Gon chasing a Hyper Puffball. After a while, he is able to catch it and obtains its card. Next is Killua, chasing after Melanin Lizard, and without putting much effort, he defeats the beast and obtains its card.

The next day, Gon chases the Bubble Horse. Using Zetsu to avoid the bubbles, he catches the horse and obtains its card. Biscuit tells them to work on their defense. She starts releasing her aura and shows them her Ko. She explains what it is and will attack with her fist, but they must not dodge. She explains that in order to defend themselves from Ko, they must use Ko as well, on their entire body. This technique combines Ten and Ren, which is called Ken. Biscuit tells Gon to use Ren and defend himself from her punch. When both parties are readied with their stance, Biscuit moves her fist towards Gon rather slowly, which makes Gon relaxed. However, when Biscuit's fist meets Gon's hand, the impact is much bigger than expected, causing Gon to fly backwards several meters. Biscuit states that it was only the power of Ko alone, and if Gon had not used his Ken, his face would have been smashed. She will try again and reminds him to keep using his Ken and try to withstand her attack. Gon is only able to use his Ko for 2 minutes before he falls to the ground in exhaustion. Biscuit says he must sustain Ken for at least 30 minutes or he won't stand a chance. Both Gon and Killua train their Ken until Gon is finally able to use it for 30 minutes and withstand Biscuit's attack.

Later, Biscuit says they will learn actual combat training. She orders them to use their Ken. As they do so, she explains in this state their attack and defense power are both 50 and that they should shift their fists to 70 and the rest to 30 at the moment of attack. She mentions they can use Gyo to alter their power depending on the situation, which is called Ryu. After demonstrating it, she orders them to do it. Finished with the training, they begin sparring. They start the fight slowly, but it becomes faster in just 2 weeks. Biscuit tells them that they will begin training in individual categories. They start training in the Enhancer category. She introduces level 1, which is smashing rocks. She tells them to smash a thousand of them with a single stone in a day to clear the level. However, Gon quickly crumbles his own stone, followed by Killua afterwards. Biscuit praises Killua's work and raises her index finger. Both Gon and Killua quickly use their Gyo to find out what number it is. They both answer simultaneously making the result a draw. They use rock-paper-scissors to decide the winner, causing Killua to be the one punished. Seeing this, Biscuit tells them the theory of rock-paper-scissors began in martial arts and she begins telling them the legend.

Meanwhile, Nickes' Alliance has gathered in a cave with 133 cards; 90 of them being the restricted cards out of 100. Suddenly, Genthru interrupts and he reveals himself to everyone as the Bomber. He then explains that he has placed a bomb on all of them, making everyone panicked. Jispa attempts to attack him from behind, but is seriously injured by a Little Flower explosion, which is placed on his face by Genthru. He explains how to disarm the bomb on their bodies: they have to touch him and say "I caught the Bomber." After that, he shows the bombs placed on their body, an ability named Countdown. He states he will trade their lives for the 90 restricted slot cards, and that he will use an alternative method if they agree. However, they will die if they do nothing when the timer reaches 0. Soon after, he leaves the game by using the "Leave" card.

Inside Battera's mansion, Genthru is seen waiting with his other men in the basement, revealed to be Sub and Bara. Puhat appears alone, surprising Genthru and thinking Nickes would come. When he requests Puhat's ring, Puhat refuses to give it to him and tries to bargain with Genthru. However, Genthru quickly grabs Puhat's neck, choking him, and uses his Little Flower Nen ability, instantly killing him. The scene changes and shows 12 hours before Genthru revealed himself as the Bomber. A ship is seen sailing on the sea, ridden by Phantom Troupe members: Shizuku, Franklin, Shalnark, Phinks, Feitan, and Kortopi. Shalnark claims that they've found Greed Island in the real world.

Episode 65: The Phantom Troupe members Shizuku, Franklin, Shalnark, Phinks, Feitan, and Kortopi land on Greed Island only to be confronted by a maker of the game, Razor. Phinks senses Razor's strength when Razor pulls out an Eliminate card, that only Game Masters hold. Razor tells them that they must enter through the proper channels, should they do so, they could fight him in the game get an item. Phinks tells him that they'll come back to the game through the front door and Razor uses the Eliminate spell to teleport them off the island. He then uses an incredibly powerful Emitter attack to blow up the Troupe's boat.

Meanwhile, Gon trains his new ability, Rock, by punching a huge boulder into little pieces. Killua and Biscuit are impressed until he tries another attack, Paper, which is a dud. It fails because Gon is an Enhancer and Paper is an Emitter attack. Gon also wants to learn Scissor, a Transmuter attack, which allows him to cut with Nen. Though Biscuit likes the idea of variety, she is uncertain it will work. Gon explains he came up with the idea when Biscuit described the history of rock, paper, scissor, and because he enjoys the game, used it to create his abilities.

This will ultimately help Gon, using his feelings to increase his power. Killua then uses his electrical ability, impressing Gon, but scaring Biscuit. She wonders what kind of childhood he has had, but is glad the two boys are friends. Biscuit decides for them to take a break from training, when Gon remembers that soon the next Hunter Exam will begin. The three go into Masadora to find out how to leave the game and an NPC tells them with either a Leave card, or to fight or bribe the chief to sail them out.

They go to the dock and Killua easily defeats the Harbormaster. Gon tells Killua about the Kiriko monsters and he and Biscuit go to train. Killua meets Elena, and she takes him to Dolle Harbor. While training, Biscuit and Gon run into Abengane. They notice the bomb on his shoulder and he tells them how Genthru tricked him and many others. He adds to warn everyone they see about the Bomber and if they see him, to avenge the ones Genthru killed. He suspects that the deal Genthru gave Nickes is a set up and prepares for something. At the same time, Nickes meets with Genthru, Sub and Bara. Genthru demands for Nickes' ring to see if the restricted cards are really in his book. Nickes wants Genthru to disarm the bombs first, but he won't budge. Nickes reluctantly gives Genthru his ring and they enter the game.

Elsewhere, Abengane uses his Nen ability Exorcism to remove Countdown from his body. He throws a wooden doll into a fire and out grows a monstrous worm. Nomdieu, Assam, Isaac and another man meet Nickes and the Bombers at the entrance of Greed Island for Genthru to remove the ability. Once Genthru has checked that all the cards are in the book, Nickes pleads with them to release the ability. At the same time, the hideous worm Abengane has unleashed from the fire crawls towards him and eats the bomb off his shoulder. Not a moment later, Genthru, Sub and Bara put their thumbs together, exclaiming "Release!" Almost immediately, the bombs explode, killing the five men and dozens of others; Abengane the only exception. However, the worm creature stays on his body until he can kill Genthru, or touch him.

Gon wants to help the victims of the Bomber, but Biscuit figures sooner or later they'll run into him anyway. They collect spell cards in order to protect themselves in the game while waiting for Killua to return. Killua sits with the Kiriko while Gon continues to train and is able to make a little ball of Nen while trying Paper. It is small, but a huge improvement.
