Episode 91: The Chimera Ant King is finally born, destroying most of the Queen's vital organs. He asks for food, but no one answers. When Peggy comes in late and gets petrified at the Queen's condition and tries running to her, the King kills him mercilessly, staining his tail. He orders Colt to clean his tail, and Turtle says that he happens to have a handkerchief. The King kills him, having ordered Colt to do his bidding. Colt then very cautiously cleans it. Neferpitou tells the King that they have prepared him dinner on the roof, where there is a nice view.
Colt pleads Pitou to treat the Queen, but it says that as King has been born, she is of no value. The King and Royal Guards go to the roof of the palace. Menthuthuyoupi tries flying, but gets stuck in the wall, saying he needs more practice.
The King takes a bite from a human patty, but says that it is disgusting. Pitou tells him that they don't add flavor to the food in the palace. The King answers when he was in the Queen's belly, he tasted savory meat once in a while. Pitou tells him that those were special humans. Meanwhile, Colt flies towards Morel and Knov, who get ready to escape. Colt has a white flag though and says that they must save the Queen. He tells them the King has been born, much to Morel and Knov's surprise, and horror, saying that the King and the Royal Guards are evil.
The King and Royal Guards then fly off, leaving the palace. The King lands in a village, looking for food. He kills a man and woman (much to the child's horror) and takes nibbles of them. He spits it out, finding it disgusting. Pitou mentions that the brain is the tastiest part of the human, so it would be better to kill humans without damaging the head. The King then turns to the traumatized child, who breaks down after witnessing her parents being murdered. He kills the child and eats her brain, saying that it is a little tastier. Pitou is about to give him more advice, but the King strikes her with his tail, saying that she is insolent, thinking that he doesn't know about auras of people. He commends her though, for being strong, as his attack was meant to kill her, but she just has a mark on her face. She says she is not worthy of being complimented.
Back at the nest, the Squadron Leaders look down on the remains of Turtle and Peggy's book, with Small Bear saying that The King is a very different organism and views other creatures as merely food. Cheetu debates on what they should do next, since if the Queen dies, there is really no reason to keep staying at the nest. Hagya and Zazan appear saying that now the Queen can no longer reproduce, all the soldiers should try to become a King, much to Bihorn and Small Bear's shock. Bihorn says that they must save the Queen, but sees they are in the minority because Cheetu, Bloster, Meleoron, Alligator, Pike, Welfin, Hina, Rammot, and Flutter agree with Hagya's proposal.
Colt then pleads Morel and Knov that if the Queen dies, the soldiers will start imitating the King and build their own kingdoms, disrupting the ecosystem in the process. Morel questions if Chimera Ant soldiers are capable of reproducing, to which Knov confirms they can, however, soldiers belonging to a colony led by a queen make no attempt to spawn, but has read reports of soldiers attempting to reproduce following a queen's death. Seeing that Colt is telling the truth they agreed to take him to their boss to tell him his story, but remain hesitant if he will trust him.
Elsewhere, Knuckle, Shoot, Gon, with I.R.S. on his shoulder, and Killua are at the entrance to NGL. Gon and Killua say goodbye to Knuckle and Shoot, after losing the fights, and Gon makes Knuckle promise to save Kite. Knuckle promises. They leave, and Gon breaks down crying. He tells Killua that he never knew how frustrating it was to be weak. They drive back with Monta, Stick, and Spinner. Killua thinks to himself that for the 30 days Gon can't use Nen, he will protect him. However, because he's weak, he will leave Gon once the time is up.
Episode 92: Netero, with Morel and Knov, tells someone on the phone that The King has been born and to bring the best surgeons, as they have to save the Chimera Ant Queen. He cuts off some part of his hair, symbolizing that it's time to get serious, since the hardest part is yet to come. Colt is also there, to lead them inside the nest. Netero changes into his battle attire, with "Heart" read on his t-shirt. Knov explains this shirt is for luck, only used in major battles. Netero charges his Nen, encompassing the whole room in his aura, turning the scenery into a blue haze of power. He asks Colt how he compares with The King to which Colt honestly answers that he cannot even lay a finger on him, most likely to get killed by a Royal Guard beforehand. Morel and Knov begin to sweat, but Netero just laughs, glad to finally be the weaker opponent for a change. Netero tells them to bring Knuckle and Shoot to the nest, leaving to meet an "old acquaintance."
The four fighters, along with Colt, travel to the nest, infiltrating inside to help the Queen. Bihorn and another Ant tell Colt that most of the soldiers have left, while a surgeon works on the Queen to try and save her life. Colt even offers his own organs, but they're different than the Queen's so nothing can be done except hoping for a miracle. The Queen begins to talk to her Ants using telepathy, worried about her son, The King. He was born earlier than she wanted, but is glad he is healthy, hoping one day he'll rule the world. She has served her purpose and is ready to die, but it is hard for Colt to accept this. Her last request is that they inform The King about his name given by her: Meruem, or "the light that illuminates all." Her final thoughts are of him, before she dies.
Colt thinks aloud, saying that once again he couldn't protect the person he cares about. Knuckle finds it hard to resist his tears while Knov is confused. An Ant explains that Colt must be referring to a past memory when he was a human. The Hunter group can't believe that Ants have memories of them, while one explains that the memories and personalities influence how they act now. This is one reason why they learned to talk so easily. The surgeon and other doctors depart, leaving Colt in his grief. Suddenly he notices something moving inside one of the Queen's organs. He takes it out carefully, holding in his hands a little human looking baby about the size of a shirt button. It begins to cry and so does Colt, swearing to protect it at all costs. Morel then makes Colt swear never to eat another human again, and if he can agree, he'll protect Colt, to which tears start flowing down his cheeks. Colt looks back at the baby and thinks of his mother and sister.
Meanwhile, Monta Yuras, Stick Dinner, Spinner Clow, Killua, and Gon still drive back to the city. It is silent in the back, Gon still upset at himself, until he stands up and screams, confident that Knuckle will save Kite. He wants to get stronger by the time Kite comes back. Spinner is pleased with this change of mood, stating that she would have beaten up the two boys if they hadn't gotten over their depression soon. This is what Kite would have wanted. She gives a motivational speech, which makes Gon feel even better. He asks why she wants to be a Hunter and she tells them she needs money for a debt she owes. She bought a mine, with money lent from Kite, to study a certain type of bird. He was the only one who would listen to and believe in her, so she wants to pay him back. The land is a treasure to her, since it recalls her earliest memories as a child.
Back at the nest, Knuckle and Shoot scout out the area. They begin to hear strange sounds and are suddenly attacked by some unknown creature. After a second look, they realize it's Kite. At the same time, Cheetu runs past the front entrance of NGL, killing everyone in his path. A crocodile-like Ant also looks for his own place to rule; along with Zazan, Hagya, and most importantly, The King, who has just found the Republic of East Gorteau with his Royal Guards.
Episode 93: The King walks on the Royal Palace grounds of the Republic of East Gorteau, with armed guards pointing guns at him. They are all quickly disposed of by him.
Inside the palace, Ming Jol-ik enjoys a private dance from attractive women in cat costumes. The guards now dead, the King, accompanied by Shaiapouf, Menthuthuyoupi, and Neferpitou, enters the palace. Ming gets a call about the intruders, but ignores the threat.
The Chimera Ants are met with even more guards, including a Nen-using soldier. Pitou informs the King of this, to which he replies that he already knows. With a single swipe of his tail, the King kills all of the soldiers, and he begins to feed off the Nen soldier. He is delighted, as it was the taste that he had been looking for all along. Pitou realizes that the King grows stronger with every Nen user that he eats. The group finally makes its way to the theatre, where Ming yells for incompetent guards to appear. Pouf explains that the word "King" is just a title and that anyone can be a King. This angers and confuses him, wondering how someone with no power can rule a country. In an instant, Meruem kills Ming and Pitou believes they can use him for their benefit, so he allows them to do whatever they wish with the corpse. The King likes the palace and wants to use the courtyard as a "Meat Plantation."
Elsewhere, Gon and Killua return home with more demonic aura coming from the building than ever. Palm is all ready aware of their lose so the boys tread lightly. They open a door and Killua sees her stabbing a Gon dummy, with multiple other dummies around, stabbed and shredded as well. She turns her head, looking at them with blood red eyes, like peering into the pits of hell, the boys are frozen with fear. Gon has broken his promise of taking her to NGL, so in return, she makes him go on a date with her. Both boys are shocked, but Gon quickly agrees, shocking Killua even further. Killua questions her motives, but Palm begins giggling uncontrollably until she sees Killua trying to get Gon to reconsider. Palm wants to go right now, but Gon says not today since he has to train more. Palm doesn't understand and becomes furious, screaming he's trying to back out of their first date. Gon merely meant he wants to prepare for a proper date tomorrow and Palm agrees.
Killua is very impressed and asks him if he's ever been on a date before. Gon has, with Mito and many women on fishing boats who would land on Whale Island. They taught Gon "lots of things..." Killua has never been on a date since he spent most of his life training as an assassin and then spent his time with Gon. This makes him remember Biscuit's order, to leave Gon since it'll just hold him back. Knuckle calls Gon and tells him they've found Kite. Gon asks how he is, with no answer. Finally, Knuckle says Kite is being controlled by the enemy, but Gon is confident he'll be okay. Knuckle also warns him about other Chimera Ants moving into other areas. Gon is thrilled to hear Kite is alive, but unaware of his current condition.
Meanwhile, Cheetu strolls through Pata City, unabashed to his appearance. To him, it's just more food around. Gon gathers things for his date in the woods and Killua continues to fear enemy attack since Gon has no Nen powers at the moment. During the day, Cheetu has killed and eaten multiple people and now the cops have found him. They open fire, but Cheetu, faster than a speeding bullet, dodges the shots and removes the police officer's fingers. Later, Killua watches on the news about this incident and still remains cautious. The news anchor reports that the government wants the Hunter Association to get involved.
The next day, Gon waits for Palm with Killua shadowing him from afar. Suddenly a beautiful woman walks up to Gon, whom he doesn't recognize at first, but realizes it's actually Palm, looking completely different. The two go to a whale show, an aquarium and for dessert, all while Killua "stalks" them, to protect Gon of course. Gon and Palm go to the woods, looking at different creatures and flowers, when finally they get to a tree. Killua begins to feel an Ant's presence in the air, unsure if he should tell them, he decides to handle it alone. Running through the woods, Killua sees a shadow following him. He finally stops and out comes Rammot, looking for revenge. Killua must fight him alone, knowing Gon has no powers.
Episode 94: Killua takes on Rammot, an officer from Colt's squad. Gon is restricted from using Nen for 30 days and Killua is determined to protect him. Even before the battle begins, Killua feels an urge and a familiar feeling that tells him to "run away." He freezes, prompting Rammot to laugh at his terrified expression. As Illumi's voice echoes in his head, Killua is certain that he has to protect Gon. Rammot then lands a solid punch on Killua, which sends him flying across the field.
Elsewhere, Gon and Palm are sitting near a lake. Palm wonders why Gon is so interested in a tree in front of them. She asks him about it and Gon replies that she should wait and see. The sun sets, causing fireflies to appear on the tree and Palm considers it amazing. It lights up the night and becomes an amazing sight. Killua is shown again getting hit once more by Rammot. The Chimera Ant approaches Killua and begins to step on him, mocking and still laughing at his opponent. He kicks Killua in the torso again.
Gon gives Palm a branch of the tree and calls it a flower. At first Palm is confused, but then the fireflies land on the stem that Palm is holding. Gon explains that the sap of the tree is similar to the pheromones of the fireflies therefore causing it to attract them. Palm sheds tears and thanks Gon. However, he tells her that he cannot give her what she wants.
As Gon states that he wants to become strong, Killua is still at a disadvantage against Rammot. He falls back on the ground and begins to cry, calling Gon his dear friend. Once more, Illumi's voice paralyzes Killua who gets frustrated. Rammot, on the other hand, decides to kill Killua for good. Rammot goes for the kill, but Killua suddenly stabs his own head and disappears. He actually pulls out Illumi's needle which was manipulating him and reappears behind Rammot and chuckles as he realizes that Illumi did plant a needle. Rammot notices Killua's aura change and becomes afraid. Killua, now free of his brother's control, offers Rammot an opportunity to flee to give his fellow Chimera Ants a warning to stay away from Gon and him, but Rammot attempts charging again so Killua decapitates Rammot swiftly in one move and crushes his head.
After killing Rammot, Killua rushes to the lake, but neither Gon nor Palm is there. He runs back to the house and finds Palm punishing Gon for "toying with her feelings." She makes Gon write many times the same thing over and over. Palm then asks why Killua is injured and he says he was only training. Charging with a knife, Palm attempts to injure Killua, but he dodges, saying that he could dodge her knife in his sleep. She becomes furious and chases both Killua and Gon out of the house.
As they run, Killua mocks Palm, but Gon tells him to stop because it will only make her angrier. She stops chasing them and goes back to the house, taking out a crystal ball. She maniacally injures her own arm and drops blood into a merman's mouth. The crystal ball shows the location of Killua and Gon who are currently in front of a hotel by the station. She grabs a handful of knives and ties them around her body and then leaves the house. She runs into Knov outside who tells her that they still need to observe Gon and Killua for two days. Knov scolds Palm for using her powers and remarks that her blood is irreplaceable, something that Palm takes as a compliment. She starts to see Knov in a completely different manner until he inquires about her clothing. Palm disregards the topic.
The next day, Shoot follows Gon and Killua. Killua is disappointed when he receives a third silver-colored robot whilst Gon receives a gold one. Killua tells Gon that he can sell it at an auction, but Gon offers it to Killua instead. He refuses and invites Gon to the gym afterwards. Knov arrives and Shoot tells him that he didn't notice anything. Knov believes that they should continue to observe them.
Meanwhile, Knuckle waits for Cheetu in order to fight him. As Knuckle tries to punch the Chimera Ant, Cheetu only dodges it. From behind him Morel attacks with his pipe and compliments Cheetu for evading it as well. Morel and Knuckle attack Cheetu simultaneously, but given Cheetu's speed, the tables are turned.
Episode 95: Cheetu continues his fight with Knuckle and Morel. The two are unable to keep up with him physically, but can keep up with their eyes using Gyo. Morel uses Nen to create a smoke screen and multiple Knuckles. The real Knuckle is amongst the fakes and lands a hit on Cheetu. With that punch, he lands Potclean on Cheetu. Cheetu gets angry when he sees Knuckle's ability and demands to know what it is. Morel trips Cheetu, telling him his anger is blinding him. The two then hide in the grass while using Zetsu and wait until Cheetu runs away.
It's revealed Knuckle's ability can also be a tracking device, although if the opponent gets outside a certain radius from Knuckle the interest will stop adding and will resume adding if the target gets back within that radius. Cheetu tries to outrun Knuckle's ability, but it doesn't work. The team gathers in an old room. hey are about to show Kite to Gon and Killua. Shoot explains that Kite is trapped in a cage. His ability is that if he injures anything to a certain extent, he can trap the injured part in his cage. This ability is called Hotel Rafflesia.
He explains that he had to injure Kite quite a bit to trap him completely. Killua realizes how his eye vanished during the fight with Shoot now. Kite comes out of the cage and grows to his normal size. After slight a hesitation, Gon walks up to Kite. Since he can't use Nen, Gon cannot tell that Kite is being controlled. Kite punches Gon, making him think it has been a long time since Kite punched him and that it hurt a lot. Despite being able to anticipate Kite's robotic punches, Gon purposely lets them hit him. The others cringe and feel empathy for Gon. After a while, he gets angry and says that Kite's punches were not that weak and dodges one. Then, he hugs Kite. Kite stops attacking. It is explained that when someone touches zombie Kite he stops attacking. If he is touched a second time, he will go into level two mode in which his attacks are harder and more skilled. Knuckle says that to beat Kite's level two mode, one has to be highly skilled in combat. Gon gets angry and retreats, saying he wants Neferpitou for himself.
A few days later, one day remains until Gon gets his Nen back. The team heads to the Republic of East Gorteau by train. Knov doubts Gon's resolve and determination. Morel assures him that he only gets angry when he must and that he is storing it for the right time. In a restaurant near the border of the Republic of East Gorteau, the team learns that the The King intends on calling the citizens of the Republic of East Gorteau to his palace in ten days for a "screening" using the controlled corpse of Ming-Jol-ik. It is told that Netero is already in the Republic of East Gorteau and that if he fails to contact them by today, it should be assumed he is dead. At that moment, he contacts them, telling them that he will try and defeat the King while their mission will be to distract the Royal Guards.
At midnight, Gon's Nen returns. Morel says he wants to test Gon's resolve. He tells Gon that he should hit him with the intent to kill and that he should imagine facing Pitou. Morel powers up into a very muscular form. Gon's remembers all the horror he went through with Neferpitou and his eyes go blank. He begins powering up an extraordinarily powerful Jajanken which makes everybody tremble in fear, especially Morel. Killua stops Gon. Gon apologizes to Morel and says that he was really about to kill him. Finally, it is decided who will face which Royal Guard: Killua and Gon vs Neferpitou; Knov and Morel vs Shaiapouf; Knuckle and Shoot vs Menthuthuyoupi.
