Episode 96: A news reporter informs people about the Chimera Ants, which they classify as UMAs: Unidentified Mysterious Animals. She reports a lot of police getting beaten by the Ants and how they can talk. It shows a reporter interviewing Hagya and then getting eaten. The Phantom Troupe see this and get ready to take them out.
The Phantom Troupe return to Meteor City, their homeland, and find out that a group of Chimera Ants have nested close by and are mutating its citizens. Some of the mutated ones survive and serve the Ants, while some die. The Council is debating whether to call them dead based on whether or not there is a way to restore them. Phinks comments on how they are pointlessly arguing and always lose sight of what is important. The Troupe decides to eliminate the "Queen" before the day is out.
They approach the Queen's hideout. It is revealed that the Queen is Zazan. She is the one turning humans into Ants by stinging them with her tail. This ability is called Sexy Stinger of Rebirth. The Troupe enter the castle. They see no one. The group decides to have a competition, a race to see who can kill the Queen first. Whoever wins will become the interim boss. They separate. Pike informs Zazan of the situation. Intrigued by the Phantom Troupe's strength, Zazan orders Pike to go fight them as well. Although worried about her well being, Pike is assured of her safety and is complimented by her and goes off to deal with the invaders vowing to give it his all and he'll return soon
Bonolenov runs into a Spiky Chimera Ant. His bandages come off, showing holes all over his body. It is revealed he comes from a tribe that was driven off their ancestral lands due to industrialization. When their males turn three, needles are punctured into their bodies to make holes. When they grow up, depending on the size of the holes, they can make sounds by moving their bodies. Before they fight with a rival tribe, they play a battle song using their bodies as instruments. They are known as Bapu, dancing warriors. They believe that the more beautiful the sound produced, the stronger the spirit that descends. The most skilled Bapus are treated as gods and have more influence than elders. Bonolenov uses an ability called Battle Cantabile, Prologue to attack the Ant. The ability involves Conjuring armor and a spear, which is used to attack. His bandages return. The Ant gets back up and insults Bonolenov calling his soul cheap. This infuriates Bonolenov and claims the Chimera Ant does not need to take back his words.
Meanwhile, Shalnark faces off with another Ant. He is trying to insert an antennae in it. The Ant attacks him and cuts his shirt. He sees a weak point in its joint and intends to stick the antennae there. He manages to after getting slightly injured, but the Ant does not fall under his control. It is revealed that it's name is Pell and is being manipulated by another Ant named Boki. Pell holds Shalnark in a tight hold. Shalnark mentions having to use an ability that he'd rather not.
Meanwhile, Phinks' punches on another Chimera Ant seem ineffective. The Ant says that it'll give him a free punch. Phinks says that fifteen wind ups should do. He starts swinging his arm, stretching it out. He explains his ability, the more he winds his arm, the stronger his punch gets. Phinks punches the Ant with his Nen ability, Ripper Cyclotron, blowing it to pieces. He mentions half the power would have been enough. There are two paths in front of him. He flips a coin to chose which one to go through.
Shalnark asks Pell what will become of him. Pell replies that he will become a slave and work for the Queen until he dies. Pell prepares his other antennae so that he can control Shalnark. Shalnark reveals another antennae for these kinds of situations. He sticks the second antenna in his own leg. His mobile device says, Autopilot on, and Shalnark releases an immense amount of aura and crushes Pell and Boki. The device says that the mission is complete and Shalnark goes back to normal. He can't remember what happened and mentions that the side effect to using this ability is muscle pain. A piece of paper is on his back as he walks further into the Ant building.
Elsewhere, Shizuku is fighting Pike. His thread is wrapped around her vacuum. It's shown she too has a piece of paper stuck on her back. The same is shown for Feitan as he fights the Queen. It turns out all the Troupe members have pieces of paper on their back. It's actually Kalluto's ability and he's using it to spy on the Troupe members and their powers. Another Chimera Ant appears before Kalluto. It brings out a steel whip and Kalluto starts to drop confetti. Using a paper fan, he sends them to the Ant. They do nothing, but he continues to surround it with more paper. One confetti sticks to its arm. The Ant attacks him with his steel whip, but he cuts it using his paper fan. Kalluto sends a torrent of confetti toward the one that had stuck to the Ant's arm and is cut off. He does that to its second arm as well. This Nen ability is called Meandering Dance.
Feitan brings out an umbrella and opens it. There is actually a hidden sword in its handle. He uses it to attack Zazan and rips her outer garment. The Chimera Ant fighting Bonolenov is running away from a giant boulder, but is crushed by the Nen ability, Battle Cantabile, Jupiter.
Episode 97: Phinks and Shalnark meet Bonolenov. Elsewhere, Kalluto leaves after torturing and killing his opponent. Feitan is still fighting with Zazan. He says he has lost his touch, but it is a perfect opportunity for practice. Shizuku is fighting with Pike while Blinky is stuck to Pike's threads, she makes it disappear.
Pike tries to shoot at her again with threads as Shizuku looks for an opening. Pike figures out that Shizuku conjures her vacuum, which forces him to use a technique he would rather not: Love Shower. He has to use a lot of webbing with this power and it hurts his rear. This engulfs Shizuku in webs, making Pike drag her over his shoulder, but it suddenly gets lighter. Shizuku escaped and hits Pike with her vacuum multiple times. Shizuku is now stripped down to her undergarments, wearing a white bra and panties. Her spider tattoo is on the lower-left of her abdomen. She escaped by widening an opening in the web to slip through while protecting her skin, sacrificing her clothes in the process.
Shizuku says that she will defeat him from a distance now that she knows the range of his attacks. She orders Blinky to suck out all the blood from Pike's body, now that he is injured. Pike tries to stop the bleeding with his hands, but there are too many wounds. After he is sucked dry, Shizuku mentions that they are both idiots. Pike could have sealed the wounds using his web.
Meanwhile, Kalluto arrives to where Feitan and Zazan are fighting. He is amazed at their remarkable speed, especially Feitan's, whom Kalluto concludes is on a completely different level. The other members arrive with Shizuku being the last. They express their interest to fighting Zazan, but when Kalluto suggests that they help Feitan, Phinks declines. He states that it is a race and if Feitan loses, the next one may challenge Zazan. Bonolenov mentions that he got there first, but Phinks disagrees, prompting Shalnark to flip a coin and Bonolenov wins.
As they continue to fight, Feitan finds an opening behind Zazan and attempts to pierce her eye with a blade from his umbrella. Zazan deflects the attack although the skin near her eye is injured. She gets insanely angry and pulls out her own tail in frustration. She begins to transform into a monstrous crocodile-looking creature. Feitan gets another opening and attacks her behind using his sword. Focusing his aura on the edge of the blade, he attempts to cut through Zazan's tough skin, but his blade snaps. His clothes begin to tear off, Kalluto asks why, and Phinks states that Feitan was left defenseless for a second. Kalluto realizes that his aim to be the Phantom Troupe's number two is farfetched.
Zazan successfully snaps Feitan's left arm and Phinks eagerly asks if he wants to trade places. Instead, Feitan curses in his native language under his breath and his companions already know what is going to happen next. Shizuku, Shalnark, and Bonolenov take their leave, saying that they almost died when Feitan used his power. Phinks warns Kalluto that his Nen ability is indiscriminate and will destroy anything in a wide range; despite how much he wants to see Feitan's power, he followed closely behind Phinks. The Troupe begin to run away in fear, but Kalluto hesitates since he wants to see the power.
With Feitan now hurt, he too changes his mood instantly, becoming deranged with anger. Suddenly, a tremendous amount of Nen comes from him, even so much to change his clothes. He conjures Pain Packer which releases a ball of aura up to the ceiling which then transforms into Rising Sun which is a literal sun. The palace begins to burn up and Zazan is slowly turned into ashes as Feitan derides her in his native language while she laments her death in a place like this. Feitan mocks Zazan one last time bt telling her corpse that if she had dealt him more pain, her death would have been faster and more painless before he headed off with his companions. As they leave the nest, more Chimera Ants show up, begging them to kill them. Phinks refuses, saying that he doesn't do mercy killings but says that they are free to attack them so that they, Meteor City citizens, can retain their pride and "go out out in style" and so, the Ants attack them in order to be killed.
Once over, the Phantom Troupe trek Meteor City once again. Phinks has lent Shizuku his Egyptian-like robe to cover her up. Shalnark's phone then rings and Phinks immediately inquires if it is Chrollo. Shalnark says no; it's Nobunaga asking if they will help him with his job. Phinks responds with a "no" angrily and then sulks stating that he hates needing to wait. Shalnark comments on how he acts like a girl with a crush, and Feitan adds that Phinks sounded "very feminine". Phinks counterattacks, throwing big chunks of building rubble towards Shalnark and Feitan who run away despite their injuries. Elsewhere, Gon and Killua are preparing to infiltrate the Republic of East Gorteau within nine days.
Episode 98: Hagya, Flutter and Hina run across a deserted plain until they reach the Royal Palace of East Gorteau. They bow before Shaiapouf who they inform about something. Shaiapouf leaves Hagya and his team, whom, in turn, are satisfied with themselves.
Elsewhere, Gon and Killua infiltrate the Republic of East Gorteau rather easily. Killua warns Gon about informants that take rewards once they discover an enemy spy, as well as when they stop someone from leaving the country, which can be detrimental to the whole family. However, if someone provides false information, or someone commits a crime, the entire group of informants is punished. Gon remarks that Killua knows many things about the matter. Killua replies that he heard it from his brother, who heard it from their grandfather Zeno. He was able to infiltrate the country for a job.
They reach a small village and Killua suggests that they sneak in to find more information. He tells Gon to wait for him, and then proceeds to sneak in himself. After a while, Killua signals Gon to follow. They stay in a deserted house and Killua deduces that there is something hidden based on the bloody mess on the floor and bullet holes in the walls. They follow a trail of blood outside until they reach buried villagers. Killua believes it is a sign for the entire population of cities and villages to vanish and that the selection has already begun. They start to discuss the population of Peijin and how many Nen users will it take to check for five million citizens. Killua adds that not all Chimera Ants can use Nen, however, they can still use Manipulation, which ends up in another discussion about Neferpitou's abilities. Killua thinks that causing a commotion during their selection will be simple: they take out whoever gets controlled and cause a panic. The only problem is detection. Gon sticks to Killua's plan yet Killua prefers to do his plan alone. He insists that Gon will be the one to stay hidden, as their main goal is to defeat Neferpitou.
Unknown to them, a Chimera Ant has been hiding in the shadows all along. Meleoron remarks that they aren't citizens of the country, but he still suspects them as spies. He acknowledges their strength and even questions if they are assassins, or are they to hunt down the King? Meleoron knows that he should stop them although he prefers not to engage both in combat, especially Killua whom he thinks has the potential to become a Squadron Leader. Killua then turns around for a bit and glares. Meleoron continues that Killua is special and compliments him for sensing his presence even when Meleoron is concealed.
Killua and Gon separate. Meleoron laughs to himself and proceeds to follow Gon. Meanwhile, Knov and Morel convince Marcos that he and his family will be transported and safe. Knov assures him that they have prepared all necessary documents and all that's left is for him to sign the papers. The condition is as follows: Marcos will share his complete military knowledge in exchange for his freedom. Marcos immediately agrees and proceeds to talk about the crimes in which "Ming Jol-ik has committed". Despite Morel's refusal of this information, he still assures Marcos, he should continue his business as normal. Elsewhere, Knuckle complains sitting around with Shoot as people die. They argue and Shoot tells Knuckle to calm down, but Knuckle thinks they should do something about the selection.
Gon spends his time in the forest eating and wondering if Killua is okay. He then senses someone else's presence and by the second time he turns around, Snake attacks him. He dodges the attack and Snake praises him. The Chimera Ant uses his tail as a spring to propel himself among the trees. He traps Gon using his tail, but he gets himself free, landing a heavy punch on Snake's face, defeating him and tying him to a tree with his own tail. Meleoron observes and is convinced Gon is strong. As Gon runs away, he senses more Ants. Bat and Hollow are following him. Again, Meleoron finds Gon's situation interesting, laughing to himself while he watches from the trees.
Episode 99: After Gon parts way with Killua in order to stop the selection, he finds himself attacked by two Chimera Ants. Gon remarks that his opponents are both nocturnal creatures and hunters of the night. The Chimera Ant feints an attack and Gon falls for it, and ends up being attacked from behind by the Hollow. Because the Bat's wings are so loud, Gon couldn't hear the Hollow's attack. Gon runs off and Hollow confidently remarks how he can hear Gon's every movement. As he runs, Gon senses an attack from Hollow coming from the right but is unable to evade it, resulting in another attack from Bat. It is clear that Hollow uses his feathers to distract Gon while having Bat attack once more, a perfect example of using both long- and short-range attacks.
Gon decides to approach the matter the other way and focuses on attacking Bat. Hollow attacks him again with his feather but Gon still has his eyes and ears on Bat's movements. As he is about to punch her, Bat evades with the help of her ultrasonic waves. Bat telepathically tells Hollow that Gon can predict her next movements and Hollow remarks on how his aura keeps growing. Gon prepares to use his technique and while Hollow feels threatened, Bat tells him that the timing is perfect for them to evade it. She can use her ultrasonic waves to see it in advance. She tries to approach Gon quietly, by flying higher at first so that Gon would be unable to hear any wing beats. Bat dives down towards Gon, but he says that he can hear Bat slicing through the air. As she dives down, Bat is confident as Gon is still not moving from where he is standing. She gets nearer and Gon slowly turns towards her, shouting loudly right in her ears. Bat is unable to see and flies away immediately. Gon sends his Jajanken: Paper to her but Hollow, now in his Gorilla Mode, deflected his attack by throwing a rock.
Hollow throws another rock, now towards Gon's direction. He barely evades it and gets punched by Hollow. Gon realizes that there is another ultrasound which made his head spin. In the shadows, Meleoron watches from behind and finds Gon's situation quite amusing. Gon decides to use Gyo and Bat counters with her Ultrasonic Dissonance. Gon is distracted and gets punched by Hollow once more. He keeps on attacking Gon while he tears up a small piece of cloth from his pocket. He uses it to cover his ears for the time being. It proves to be an advantage to him and he can now locate Hollow due to its aura, yet the only thing he sensed is a feather and the real Hollow is right behind him. He gets another series of punches.
Gon attacks Hollow head on with punches and Bat disrupts them by using her ultrasonic. Gon knows he can defeat Hollow using Rock but he fears that Bat might run away and warn the other Ants. Hollow covers his ears so Bat can fully use her ultrasonic while Gon shrouds himself with aura and keeps attacking. He concludes that their weakness is moving in sync. He grabs a log and swings it towards Hollow who is in front of him. Gon continues this until the log reaches behind him and Bat gets flown away by the force. She gets thrown towards a wall and is finally defeated. Hollow is surprised that Gon is able to turn their combination against them.
Hollow runs away and Gon runs after him using his ultimate technique. The remaining Chimera Ant gets hit and is knocked westwards by Gon. Meleoron gets extremely impressed and remarks that Gon can be useful. Elsewhere, Killua proceeds with his plan and is convincing the village people that Ming Jol-ik was already dethroned, and that the soldiers are scattered around, slaughtering people. The village people believe him and all run off as Killua instructed.
Neferpitou senses a change of course in her plans. She thinks an assassin might be responsible for this but is acting on his own, and most likely, a decoy. She rushes inside the palace to ask for advice. Shaiapouf is seen playing the violin and giving an answer to Neferpitou's question. He says that it is not a diversion; therefore they cannot go. Neferpitou reluctantly agrees and tells Shaiapouf that these people act as if they are careful not to be caught by her. Shaiapouf replies that it must be an act to draw Neferpitou out. He mentions that their mission is to protect the King and let the other Chimera Ants handle the rest.
Hagya arrives along with Flutter and Hina, and asks Shaiapouf if it is their turn. Neferpitou tells them to kill whoever is disabling her puppets. Leol immediately agrees and Neferpitou hands him a cellphone as they cannot use telepathy. She will give Leol and his group updates about their target's location. When the group has already left, Menthuthuyoupi questions if they can trust Leol. Neferpitou doesn't trust Leol and his group as they are the ones trying to earn their, the Royal Guards, trust. Shaiapouf adds that they are probably looking for an opportunity to dispose of the Royal Guards.
Back to Killua, as he plans his next approach on the nearest village. He runs off but when something blocks his way, Killua decides to turn another way. Knuckle and Shoot worry about Cheetu as he runs towards East Gorteau. The Hunter who replaced Morel and Knuckle has failed to capture him. Knuckle confirms that he is in a bad mood since over 300 Chimera Ants have been captured by the Hunter Association, but Colt told them before that none of the Ants are Squadron Leaders. He knows that Cheetu is going to East Gorteau because the King is there. If they allow more Chimera Ants to join the King, the Royal Guards will be hard to draw away. Shoot decides to contact Morel first. Morel gets frustrated and tells Knov that the Association sent another Hunter instead. Knov turns the television on where an announcement from Diego is to be made.
Diego announces that East Gorteau is under martial law. While the soldiers march on, Killua appears and remarks that even if they send out tanks and fighter jets, he can take them all.
Episode 100: Cheetu attempts to return to the King with Knuckle and Shoot on his tail. The two Hunters wait, deducing Cheetu will pass through within the next ten minutes. Knuckle suddenly gets frustrated; Cheetu changed his direction at the last second, signaling he knew they were there. Knuckle tries to follow, but Shoot refuses, saying that they can't rival Cheetu's speed. Shoot notices someone above them; it's Flutter, informing his fellow Chimera Ants that he's discovered two suspicious figures. Leol orders him to forget about Shoot and Knuckle, as they are not the targets. Flutter tells Leol that he warned Cheetu about their trap.
Neferpitou calls Leol and tells him that their target engaged a squad of soldiers. He guesses the target's next attack will happen in the city of Longtong. Neferpitou tells Leol to head there and cut off whoever their target is. He remarks that the soldiers are only there to buy time. Meanwhile, Killua runs around the city and shouts that Ming Jol-ik has fallen. The citizens call him a rebel and start throwing things at him. Knowing that the odds are against him now, Killua decides to take out as many puppets and soldiers as he can.
Gon runs through the forest and knows that someone is still following him. He stops short and demands who it is, but no one answers. He begins to run, hoping to shake off the Chimera Ant.
Cheetu meets with Leol in the desert. He tells Leol that Flutter's previous warning was a big help and he is now trying to avoid fights. Leol inquires about APR and Cheetu replies that a Hunter hit him with it and so far, it doesn't have any effect. Leol volunteers to get rid of APR, but not for free, as Cheetu guessed. Flutter contacts Leol and informs him that their target, Killua, is headed towards Longtong. Leol orders him again to slow down their target and then asks Cheetu to help them hunt Killua. Cheetu says Hunters are tough to deal with, yet Leol assures him that Shaiapouf prepared something for Cheetu and will teach him how to use Nen. In turn, Cheetu will have to swear loyalty to the King. Leol tells Cheetu to return to the castle, while his subordinates learn some of Killua's abilities.
Killua notices someone from above following him and is too far for his yo-yo. He jumps off a cliff and heads into dense forest, thinking Flutter won't see him from the air. He hides in the bushes and waits for Flutter to descend, but the Chimera Ant sends Leol's soldiers unto him. Two Chimera Ants attack Killua simultaneously and the scorpion-like Ant is immediately decapitated. Killua proceeds to take out the other five Chimera Ants at the same time. Two remain and decide to regroup, but they are followed by Killua. He jumps down to attack him, but the Carabid Beetle blasts a huge fireball towards him and leaves. Killua realizes Flutter must still be instructing them.
He runs after the Carabid Beetle Ant through the forest and is hit by something. He removes what's stuck on his face and is surprised to see a flea. He is hit once more, this time, on the neck. Out in the open field, a sniper has located Killua because of Flutter. He hits Killua again on the leg. Killua becomes nervous because the wounds aren't closing and begins to dodge the fleas. Flutter is surprised that Killua is now able to evade the attacks. He proceeds to use Nen, while Flutter observes him closely using Super Eyes. Killua cannot use En, so he manages to surround himself in aura that stretches 57 centimeters. However, he gets hit one more time. In all his frustration, he follows the direction of the attack and Flutter warns the sniper of Killua's arrival.
Gon runs through a desert and challenges whoever is following him. Meleoron reveals himself and attempts to talk things out with Gon. He calls Gon a valuable partner and asks him about the King. Gon decides not to answer and when Meleoron mentions that he's been following Gon since he was with Killua, Gon powers up. He gets somewhat enraged that Meleoron thinks he would put up less of a fight than Killua. Meleoron quickly dismisses the idea and clears up the misunderstanding.
Killua locates the sniper, but the sniper runs off. He stops in front of a hole and warns Killua that it is a trap. As the sniper descends inside the hole, Killua grabs him and sticks his claws into the sniper's skull, saying he couldn't care less. The sniper transforms into another being and pulls Killua down into an underground lake. Marine Chimera Ants immediately sense blood and rush over to attack Ikalgo's host. Ikalgo points a gun at Killua, who is holding one of Ikalgo's tentacles. He calls Ikalgo an octopus and Ikalgo shouts he's not an octopus.
