Anime Look Back: Toriko Episode 1-25 Summary

Episode 1: This episode is a cross-over episode with One Piece which summary will be posted much later and it will take some time before I reach the cross-over episode. Running low on food supplies, Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew discover the Gourmet Island - an island where everything is made of food - and encounter Toriko and Komatsu. Toriko mistakes Chopper as potential food, leading to a brief fight with Luffy before the two quickly clear up the misunderstanding. Working together, the two groups successfully search and capture a Hungrila bird as part of Toriko's search for rare ingredients; The group also defeats and cooks an aggressive group of Roasted Boars who attack them along the way. They spend the night sampling their spoils, when Nami and Komatsu are kidnapped by an unknown assailant.

Episode 2: Chef Komatsu of the IGO went to request a hunt from Gourmet Hunter, Toriko. To Komatsu’s surprise, Toriko was fishing with a gigantic rod, and caught a giant Pincer Fish and a Five-Tailed Giant Eagle together. Toriko was excited after hearing about the hunt, the Galala Gator. Tom, Toriko’s acquaintance, gave them a ride aboard his motorboat. On their way to the Baron Archipelago, Toriko inquired about the reason Komatsu tagged along, and Komatsu explained that he was told to research the Gator. Toriko knew from the smell on his hands that Komatsu is a chef, and Komatsu affirmed that he’s the head of Hotel Gourmet.

Near the island, Friday Monkeys were seen, which piqued Toriko’s curiosity, as those cowardly monkeys rarely exit their caves. Inside the Island, they encountered a Snake Toad, Baron Leech (which sucked some of Komatsu’s blood), Baron Tiger, and finally decided to camp next to a swamp for the night. Toriko thought the beasts forced out of their habitat by an overwhelming predator would be the only possible explanation for this all. Interrupting their meal, a giant Swamp Snake popped up severely injured, and fell dead. The Snake had Baron Leeches all over; Toriko understood that the Gator sends its leeches to locate its prey by the smell of blood. Suddenly, the Snake got dragged into the water, and a gigantic Garara Gator came out. Its size made it clear for Toriko that this can’t be 150 years old, but 300, has a capture lvl higher than 5, and is the overwhelming predator.

Drooling over the thought of how much the Gator’s meat must’ve ripened, Toriko fought the beast. After exchanging some hits, Toriko offered his respect to the beast for its strength, then used his Fork and Knife techniques, cutting the beast in pieces. The Gourmet Corp. had been spying on the fight, and reported back to Starjun, who was surprised the Four Heavenly Kings started moving. At Baron Island, Toriko and Komatsu were preparing to dine on the meat when Toriko asked why a pro chef like Komatsu came all the way to that dangerous a place, and Komatsu replied that his dream is to become a first-class chef, and that he needs to see the ingredients’ original form to cook them in the best way. Komatsu then asked about Toriko’s dream, and Toriko mentioned his dream is to complete his lifetime Full Course Menu. Komatsu got inspired by Toriko’s goal, and offered to tag along in future hunts, and Toriko agreed. They got absorbed by the meat’s taste and ate it all, forgetting that Komatsu it for a party, and in the end, Toriko disqualified it from his Menu.

Episode 3: At the Gourmet Central Wholesale Marketplace, Toriko brought over a Shakurenodon he caught to be sold; which he got spotted by Tina who's keen to have an interview with him but got interrupted by Johannes . Toriko is then commissioned by the International Gourmet Organization to obtain the Rainbow Fruit, much to Komatsu's surprise. However the Rainbow Fruit trees were guarded by powerful Troll Kongs , with Capture Level of 9. Interested in the Rainbow Fruit, Toriko accepted the commission.

By blasting the wall with his Kugi Punch, Toriko entered the Biotope with Komatsu; news reporter Tina sneaks in to try and get footage of Toriko in action. Toriko encounters a scout Troll Kong and knocks him out with a Knocking Gun , since he does not kill what he does not intend to eat, however Toriko got licked and got it's scent. Toriko soon encounters a group of Troll Kongs guarding the Rainbow Fruit tree, with Komatsu clinging on his back, Toriko proceeds to perform knocking on them. As Toriko confronts them, the rain washes off the scent from the underling on his body, allowing him to use his intimidation against the others and gain dominance over its leader, the Silverback . Toriko takes a single fruit, though Tina is caught and her footage is confiscated.

Later on in Hotel Gourmet , Toriko had his meal and Rainbow Fruit jelly as a dessert served by Komatsu. Moved by the ever-changing flavors of the Rainbow Fruit, Toriko declares the Rainbow Fruit as the dessert for his full-course menu. Meanwhile, a shady figure made a premonition on Toriko's arrival.

Episode 4: Wanting to capture the Puffer Whale that appears every 10 years, Toriko and Komatsu travel via a train towards Gourmet Fortune, a town where Coco, one of the Four Heavenly Kings work as a Fortune Teller. However later she later ran out of the cave chasing Zongeh thinking he had caught the Puffer Whale. The three of them continue on into the dark caves, it's also when Coco revealed his superhuman vision, Coco also used his poison to scare away Scorpion Cockroach.

Reaching a deeper part of cave where they required ropes to descend a hole, Komatsu surprised Coco by clinging onto his body not fearing his poison. After they reached, Coco used Poison Dressing to stun a swarm of Swallowtail Bats flying towards them, however they discovered Komatsu went missing from their side. The Devil Serpent let out a cry so powerful that vibrates and destroyed the outer cave's entrance. Realising something is wrong, Tina who's outside the cave turned on her laptop to get information from the mini camera on Komatsu's helmet, only to find another Bishokuya kidnapped Komatsu intending to use him as bait to the other dangerous beasts.

The Devil Serpent proceed to attack Toriko and Coco using it's limbs and digestive fluids, the bishokuyas learned that it can regenerate itself at extraordinary speed and it don't mind spilling digestive fluids on it's own arm. Coco proposed to Toriko that he should hold off the Devil Serpant while Toriko should go and save Komatsu. Dismissing the idea, Toriko chose to fight with Coco since Coco can't see the shadow of death on the devilish snake. Toriko and Coco then showed their appetite demons which did not intimidate the serpent, they decided that Coco will limit it's movement while Toriko prepare his attack. However, the Devil Serpent managed to capture Coco and inject poison into the bishokuya's body, which Coco managed to counter it by creating antibodies on the spot and inject his own poison and antibodies into the Devil Serpent. With it's movement limited, Toriko went on and finished off the serpent with his 5 times Kugi Punch.

Later on, Komatsu and his kidnapper were seen facing another Devil Serpent in the caves.

Episode 6: As the kidnapper leaves Komatsu at the mercy of the Demon Devil Snake only to be killed by some other creatures, Komatsu uses a special firecracker given to him by Toriko, but the sound from it causes Komatsu's heart to stop. However, he is rescued by an old man they had met on the train named Jiro, who is a Knocking Master, knocking out the snake and reviving Komatsu. After reuniting with Komatsu, Toriko's group reach a sandy beach in the cave, where they find a school of small Puffer Whales. After Coco uses his technique of hiding his presence to catch one whale, Toriko is able to copy it and catch more. After catching a few, Coco has Komatsu prepare the whales to have their poisonous glands removed and, despite poisoning all but one of the whales, Komatsu manages to save the last one, preparing it into sashimi and sake.
