Dororo is a remake of the classic anime in the 60s of its manga series by the father of manga. This remake takes on the series nice as there isn't any series there that has the same premise as this series. As for comparing to its manga counterpart which I did not read I can't really tell much about the series but I would said that this anime series is still one of the best out there in fact to me it should be the best series for this season as not much anime caught my eye this season. The animation for this series was great, and even the Ayakashi designs isn't that bad due to the fact that they try to the demon in their folktales which I know a few of them.
The story centers around Hyakkimaru and Dororo. Hyakkimaru has a dark past like a few characters in the series his fought against the Ayakashi in order to get back his limb and all his features including his internal organs as he lost all of them due to his father who made a pact with 48 demons so that he would rule the world. Through this five episodes we sees him getting his body parts back little by little as the fought against Ayakashis, some of the characters in an episode would take orders from the Ayakashi in order to keep his village or himself save as an exchange. During this time Hyakkimaru's brother was born as he clearly isn't a good person either, the only person that seems to care about Hyakkimaru was his birth mother, Dororo, the old man priest and the man who made Hyakkimaru's limbs. He too has done bad things, so whenever he sees people without a limb he will go all out to make him new limbs in order to atone for the sins that he has committed, he was also the person who teaches Hyakkimaru how to fight to protect himself. As for Dororo not really understand what is going on follows Hyakkimaru after he save her from a Ayakashi that attacks and devours the person body as Dororo tries to talk to him but he did not answer, to which Dororo would tell him not to ignore her as Dororo did not know that he can't talk at all till they met with the old man priest and he tells Dororo what might have happened much to Dororo shock. The old man priest remembers that he has met Hyakkimaru before when he was still a baby as he was able to detect souls just like Hyakkimaru. They parted ways with the old man priest, only to run into him again in a later episode where they fought together as Hyakkimaru regains his ears and was too scary to listen to things and he has a fever, they met with a woman named Mio who works at night. Mio sleeps during the night and works at night in order to support the children that she has taken in due to a war going on and that it was the same person Sakai clan that Hyakkimaru's father Daigo was involve with. Also Hyakkimaru's mother misses him a lot even with her second son that I had mention earlier, Tahomaru is the same with his father loves to rule over thing that isn't his and loves killing.
The animation was great and the series has very good theme songs. It reflects what the story is trying tell and hinting to the confrontation that will happen near towards the end of the episode.
