Kakegurui S1 Episode 7-12 Summary

Episode 7: Seconds before Midari fires, Yumeko claims it's her gun and she sabotaged it to backfire, but Midari doesn't hesitate to shoot, revealing to Midari she doesn't fear getting hurt or killed. This information is all she wanted, though, it was a bluff and the gun is unloaded. When questioned about her reasons, Midari reveals she blinded her left eye as payment for losing against the president and now only gambles when the risk is pain or death. In the second round Yumeko correctly matches every card as Ryota simply uses Yumeko's card order from round one. She chooses a revolver and fires, having chosen the revolver that weighed less due to being unloaded. Third round, Midari puts Ryota under pressure by reversing the screen and giving him ten seconds to deal the cards; he deals them in the same order again. Having figured out the cheating by mirroring the cameras (Ryota is right handed but was somehow dealing with his left) from the beginning and that Midari knew she would, Yumeko loads two bullets, as does Midari. As Midari wants to be shot, Midari aims to get no matches, knowing that with a full match Yumeko had to pull the trigger five times, guaranteeing at least one shot. Yumeko ruins her plan by getting no matches, too, resulting in a draw. Yumeko finds playing with no risk boring and despises Midari for it. Midari, realizing she has been totally defeated, begs Yumeko to shoot her just once, but Yumeko refuses. Mary refuses to join the council and swears revenge on the president. Yumeko challenges Ryota to heads or tails and buys him sweets when she loses.

Episode 8: The president departs from the academy, leaving the rest of the council unsure how to deal with Yumeko. Council member Yumemi Yumemite, head of PR and a YourTube idol, announces she will be the next to challenge Yumeko. Itsuki Sumeragi, who, after losing to Yumeko, is in danger of being disowned by her father, offers to become loyal to Yumeko if Yumeko defeats the president, becomes the new president, and gives Sumeragi her place back on the council. Yumemi bets Yumeko 50 million on the outcome of an on stage idol championship competition and if Yumeko loses, Yumemi will alter her Life Schedule so Yumeko is forced to form an idol duo with her, thus losing any hopes she has of a social life or meaningful relationships, just like Yumemi. Yumeko tricks Yumemi into admitting she thinks her fans are all disgusting pigs on a recording device and adds the device to the bet. If Yumemi loses Yumeko will release the tape and Yumemi’s status as an idol will disappear along with her hopes for a career in Hollywood. After Yumemi’s next concert is over Yumeko joins her on stage and the competition begins.

Episode 9: Yumeko and Yumemi play games designed to test idol skills, such as dancing and singing. Yumemi allows Yumeko to win several games so there appears to be a risk she will lose. For the 6th game they have to guess the birth month of members of the audience. Yumemi, having memorised the birthdays of her entire fan club, believes she can easily win, but the audience member chosen is Mary. Yumemi panics as she realizes Yumeko is able to manipulate dice and had rolled the dice to pick Mary specifically and easily wins the entire game. Yumemi allows Yumeko to play the recording of her insulting her fans. Yumemi’s fans announce they love her anyway and she can continue being an idol. Yumeko reveals somebody had attempted to sabotage Yumemi so she would lose her career. Yumemi publicly accuses council member Kaede Manyuda. Kaede denies any wrongdoing and announces he intends to be the next president. Yumeko suggests they gamble to decide who is lying but Kaede refuses to gamble with a Mike. Yumeko suddenly uses her status as a Mike to challenge Kaede to a Public Match, which, as a council member, he is not allowed to refuse.

Episode 10: Kirari attends a meeting of the heads of her extended family. Kaede becomes convinced Yumeko is simply a gambling addict. The masked vice president Ririka insists on dealing the cards. The game is modified Poker where no player is allowed to fold or call and the last player who raises can decide whether a stronger or weaker hand wins, meaning each round will have a winner. Each player may discard and replace any number of cards once, before betting. Yumeko uses her 310 million to buy 31 poker chips. Kaede buys 100 chips for 1 billion. Yumeko wins the first round causing Kaede to factor in her love of risk taking. When Yumeko discards and replaces a pair, Kaede responds by revealing his cards before any bets are made, meaning Yumeko could win if she gets to choose strong or weak. Yumeko bets all her chips, but Kaede raises by a single chip, chooses strong and Yumeko loses the match. Yumeko is given the option to continue playing (rebuy) and calls out to Sumeragi for money. Kaede insults Sumeragi but offers her council seat back. Yumeko defends Sumeragi as her friend and urges her to take a risk for the sake of her ambitions. Rather than accept her seat back from Kaede she buys Yumeko 100 chips.

Episode 11: Kirari announces she will no longer support the other family heads. The next hand, Yumeko discards a pair again and Yumeko and Kaede keep betting until Yumeko runs out of chips again, however, Sumeragi and Kaede continue to buy more chips until Kaede raises by 100 chips to force her to stop from lack of money. Yumeko suggests Sumeragi bet her life, i.e. to receive a Life Schedule. Sumeragi refuses at first but after seeing Yumeko’s cards she rips out her own fingernails and willingly bets her life. Based on Sumeragi’s family wealth Ririka declares Sumeragi’s Life Schedule to be worth 10 billion. Kaede challenges the decision so Ririka removes her mask, revealing she is actually Kirari in disguise. With Yumeko’s bet now totalling 12 billion Kaede desperately bets his own Life Schedule for 10 billion and chooses strong. Yumeko reveals Sumeragi’s desperation was a plot to deceive Kaede into choosing strong and reveals she has three jacks, beating Kaede’s three eights. Kaede ends up billions in debt and loses his council seat. Yumeko and Kirari sit down to discuss their reasons for gambling, with both of them appearing to have some sort of attraction to each other. They declare they are finally ready to gamble.

Episode 12: Council member Runa Yomozuki acts as judge of their match. It is decided the loser of the match will be expelled. The game is Tarot, using 22 cards valued from 1–21 of which 3 will be chosen by Yumeko, Kirari and Ryota. If a card is facing Yumeko she gains those points, but if it faces away from her she loses the points. If they pick the Fool card valued at Zero Yumeko wins instantly, but only if the Fool is facing her. If it is facing away she loses instantly. If the round ends and Yumeko has any points she wins, if she has less than zero points she loses. Yumeko picks a card and gains 1 point. Kirari picks a 21 point card facing away from Yumeko, meaning Yumeko ends with minus 20 and that Ryota has to locate the Fool card and hope it is facing Yumeko. Sumeragi seemingly locates the Fool but is stopped from revealing it by Runa, who declares telling Ryota would be cheating. Yumeko urges Ryota not to worry as the risk of expulsion only applies to her. Ryota declares he has always wanted to be with Yumeko and will also accept the risk of expulsion. It is revealed that one of the cards has a lipstick smudge which Sumeragi and Mary believe Kirari left by mistake. Ryota almost picks the card but changes his mind at the last second as he knows Kirari would not make that sort of mistake. Finally understanding the rush of gambling purely by chance Ryota chooses totally at random, his embrace of risk arousing Yumeko intensely. His card is worth 20 points, and the game ends with Yumeko having zero points. As this is not a plus or a minus Runa declares the match a draw with no one having to be expelled. Kirari and Yumeko agree to gamble again in the future. Kirari congratulates Yumeko on having such loyal servants, but Yumeko replies that they are her friends. Runa calls Ririka, revealed to be the President's twin sister, to inform her of the result of the match. In a closing dialogue, Ryota sums up how Yumeko has affected everybody she gambled with. Kirari decides to dissolve the student council and Yumeko continues to be a Compulsive Gambler.
